KISC has increased its focus on early detection and is employing a proactive approach to weed control. By adding early detection to our toolbox, KISC has taken an aggressive step towards preventing new and destructive invasive species from establishing on Kauai.
Early Detection Surveys
Early detection strategies, like road-side and nursery surveys, enable us to identify threats before they become widespread and out of control. Please see KISC’s Early Detection Reports for previous survey results.

Early Detection Threats
Learn more about KISC Early Detection species. These species are not known to be widespread yet on Kauai and KISC is in the process of either mapping them, or conducting trials and exploring methods of removing them.
Hawaii Early Detection Network
The Hawaii Early Detection Network was created to increase public awareness of invasive species and engage communities in the monitoring of their own neighborhoods. This website provides information about invasive priority pests on each of the main Hawaiian Islands and how to report them. Reports are connected with island experts for identification and response.
