Aloha Kauai Gardeners! By popular demand, we are offering a second presentation of the free Native Gardening Workshop that was sold out in August. If you missed out in August, here’s your chance!
Attention Gardeners! What better way to help protect Kauai against invasive species than to learn a little more about Hawaii’s amazing, beautiful native plants and how to grow them?
Some of our worst invaders were intentionally-introduced ornamentals that escaped from gardens and overran the landscape. Learning how to avoid risky plants and feature more native species in your garden is rewarding, it helps our native ecosystems, and it’s not as hard as you might think.
KISC and the Plant Pono program are sponsoring a Native Gardening workshop on Saturday, December 7 at Seascapes Nursery, 4741 Kahiliholo Road, Kilauea. Lead speakers are Serina Marchi, tropical plant expert and co-owner and manager of the pono-endorsed nursery Seascapes, and Dayne Johnson, landscape designer and founder of the pono-endorsed landscaping business Native By Design.
Dayne and Serina will share inspiration and practical tips on designing a pono garden, including creating sustainable spaces, choosing the right plants, and how to care for your native garden. This is introductory level suitable for beginning gardeners, but there will be something for everyone from beginner to advanced. The morning includes hands-on time with plants in the nursery.
The workshop is free but registration is required. Sign up below!
